On Tuesday 25th September, St John’s school community gathered in our parish church to celebrate the retirement of our dearly beloved headteacher Barbara A Service.
The church was packed with pupils, staff, cluster Heads, invited guests, parents and Ms Service’s family to say farewell after 13 years as Headteacher. Children sang beautifully and prayed respectfully as we gave thanks for the time we have shared, the choir sang a rendition of ‘Days’ and Mrs Kelly spoke heartfelt words in a moving tribute to Ms Service and her legacy. Mr Brack and Mrs Westacott also added their best wishes on behalf of the parish and CHAPS.
There was a real sense of joy and celebration in the air, many people commented on the liturgy and the prayerful way it was celebrated. After mass, guests were invited back to school to share refreshments as the children had a well earned breaktime.
We thank everyone who was involved in organising and preparing this lovely liturgy, we especially thank the musicians, readers and Fr Jock for their parts in making the Mass so memorable and touching for Ms Service and her family.
We ask God to bless Ms Service as she leaves us on Friday.
