Edinburgh Fair Trade festival

On the 9th March the Edinburgh Fair Trade Festival takes place at Portobello Town Hall. In assembly on Friday the children were shown the poster that accompanies the festival.

On the day, the Lord Provost’s Piper will attract a crowd in from Portobello High Street, after which the event will be formally opened by Edinburgh’s Right Honourable Lord Provost Frank Ross. It is hoped that there will be speakers from a Rwanda coffee co-operative, aswell as having a community choir providing musical interludes. There will be free fair trade coffee, tea and tray bakes, and a range of stalls with fair trade products such as food, clothes and crafts to browse. There will also be free activities for younger children, such as face painting and storytelling. There’ll also be an information stall with a lot of free practical fair trade information to give away. You can find more details here

As this is a local event and we are a Fair Achiever school, and we certainly have a great deal of fair trade activity on the school website, we thought it would be important to share this information with our school community. It certainly sounds like there will be  something for everyone and it is hoped that as many people as possible will come along to support this important event.
