RRSA Article of the Week

Each week Rights Respecting Schools, UNICEF will highight an Article of the Week. As we progress towards our Silver Award, staff and pupils should be aware of the Rights of the Child. In school we share this in Assembly, in our present situation we aim to publish the article and supporting materials on the website.

This week’s article is Article 24, – Health Care – ensures that every child has the right to the best possible health.

Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.

Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

Respecting Children’s Rights

Article 15

Every child has the right to meet with other children and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.

During this week send some time talking about examples of how the right to associate is being respected all in spite of being on lockdown. These might include the efforts parents and staff are making to engage our children through online learning, web posts, the efforts made by Joe Wicks, David Walliams, Glasgow Science Centre, Fischy Music and others are helping to ensure our children have their right to associate respected.

First Meeting for Rights Respecting Schools Steering Group

This morning we held the first meeting of our RRSA steering group. The group is composed of P3-7 pupils, Mr Burgess and Miss Coleman. It was lovely to spend time talking to the children about the importance of Respecting each other and learning about their Rights.

The role of the group is to display evidence of the work carried out in class and to lead class challenges on a rota basis.

Each week in assembly, different articles relating to the childrens UN charter of human rights are highlighted. Last week we were focusing on UNICEF Day of Change and Chinese New Year.

The Steering Group will look to focus on Fairtrade Fortnight in the two weeks after February holidays.

We will keep you updated with our progress!
