This week P.1 have been learning about the NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe programme. They watched a video that helped them understand that children have the right to be safe and can speak out if they have any concerns or worries. They talked about who was a safe adult they could talk to and drew some pictures of them. They had fun doing some of the games on the Childline website and coloured in a Childline poster.
This week in literacy P.1 have been learning about the sounds of ‘f’ and ‘e’. They have been looking at what begins with ‘f’ and ‘e’ and have been practising writing and forming them correctly in the cursive style on whiteboards. They have also learned that‘e’ is a vowel and is mostly found in the middle of cvc words to help make the words. At home they can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens. They used boards with magnetic letters to find the different sounds and made words such as ‘fan’, ‘fun’, ‘fit’, ‘fog’, ‘bed’ ‘pen’, ‘met’, ‘set’, ‘den’ and ‘get’. At home the children can use their sounds to make these words and more.
In numeracy the children have been counting forwards and backwards in different number sequences. They have enjoyed making their own numberline from 0-10 and used it to count forwards and backwards from different starting points. They can practise counting forwards and backwards at home and can practise writing their numerals 0-10.
In RE P.1 learned about the festival of Diwali. They learned that it is a Festival of Light for Hindus and Sikhs and some of the children chose to make diya lamps from clay. Everyone enjoyed learning about mehndi patterns and drew around their hand and created their own mehndi patterns with felt pens.
