Drama in P.1

This week in literacy P.1 have been learning about the sounds of ‘g’ and ‘o’. They have been looking at what begins with ‘g’ and ‘o’ and have been practising writing and forming them correctly in the cursive style on whiteboards. At home they can look for objects that begin with these sounds and play I-spy. They can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens. They used boards with magnetic letters to find the different sounds and made words such as ‘pot’, ‘gap’, ‘pig’, ‘mop’, ‘tig’ and ‘dog’. At home the children can use their sounds to make these words and more.

In numeracy the children have been counting forwards and backwards from 20. They have also been saying what number comes ‘after’ when looking at different numbers from 0-10.  They used the dice counters to press and say the number shown and then the number that would come ‘after’. They also used the number fans to show different numbers and then the number that would come ‘after’. At home they can count objects around the house and say what number would come ‘after’. P.1 practised writing their numerals on whiteboards and they can practise writing these at home. This week they focused on 7, 8 and 9.

In RE P.1 talked about how they can help others by using their God-given talents.  They talked about how they can help other children if they are hurt. They can include others in their games, show kindness and share well. They then drew a picture showing how they could help others.

This week P.1 had a drama taster session from Active Schools. They enjoyed moving with a partner and exploring different ways to travel around the world. They had fun being toys that came to life in a toy shop when the owner wasn’t looking and then freezing back into their toy shapes when the owner turned around. They showed great imagination and had a lot of fun.
