This week in literacy P.1 have been learning about the sounds of ‘u’ and ‘b’. They have been looking at what begins with ‘u’ and ‘b’ and have been practising writing and forming them correctly in the cursive style on whiteboards. They have also learned that‘u’ is a vowel and is mostly found in the middle of cvc words to help make the words. At home they can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens. They used boards with magnetic letters to find the different sounds and made words such as ‘mug’, ‘sun’, ‘cut’, ‘dug’, ‘bat’ ‘bin’, ‘bus’, ‘bag’, ‘bit’ and ‘bun’. At home the children can use their sounds to make these words and more.
In numeracy the children have been counting forwards in different number sequences. They have also been saying what number comes ‘before’ and ‘after’ when looking at different numbers from 0-10. They enjoyed using a numbers workbook this week and realised that they had to focus and take their time.P.1 practised writing their numerals 0-10 on whiteboards and they can practise writing these at home.
In RE P.1 learned that the Bible is a Holy book and has stories about God and Jesus. They learned that these stories are telling us to be kind and helpful to others. The children enjoyed colouring a picture of a Bible cover and took time to colour the writing carefully.
