The Last Few Weeks in P2B!

we have had a busy past few weeks. Here are some of the things we have been up to.

Endangered Animals Topic

we finished our endangered animals topic last week. The kids loved learning about endangered species, the causes of endangered animals, and what we can do to help endangered species.

Here are pictures of the kids drawing their favourite endangered animal using chalk. Green Sea Turtles were the favourite!

Coding

Miss Mulvihill has been taking the P2s for coding lessons on a Thursday afternoon using the Scratch Junior app. During these lessons, the kids are being taught to use different commands to code characters to do specific actions.

After the main lesson and success criteria are completed, the kids are given the opportunity to ā€˜tinker’. This means they are given creative freedom to try out different functions. Some hilarious codes have been made during these sessions!

This particular lesson involved the kids using their knowledge of ocean pollution to code animals in a healthy and unhealthy ocean.

Play

Learning through play is a huge part of being a P2 at St John’s. Play is a great way of building social skills such as listening, sharing, compromise, and turn taking, in addition to teaching children to be creative, take risks, and to be confident decision makers.

Here are a few pictures of some of the things we have gotten up to.

Toys Topic

For the final few weeks of P2, we are going to be learning about toys, old and new. P2B started off this topic by talking about the toys they play with today, and learning a bit about toys their parents and grandparents would have played with. The kids then tried out some classic playground games such as TicTacToe andHopScotch.

Sports Day

On Monday, P1-P3 had their sports day. The kids enjoyed engaging in activities such as basketball throwing, egg and spoon racing, and football dribbling. Here are some photos from Monday.
