P.3 13.3.26

We are preparing to lead the school in the ‘Stations of the Cross’ on Holy Thursday as part of our RE.

Each group has their own ‘station’. This week, we worked on creating images of the events from Jesus’ journey to the cross.  The results are impressive. After drawing and shading, the children are collaging in the style of a stained glass window design.

We enjoyed an interesting and informative presentation, delivered by one of our children, about an amazing visit to South Africa.  We learned a lot and loved seeing the stunning photographs! Some great questions asked and answered.

P.3 Update 11.3.26

Here is a snapshot of what has been happening in P.3 over the last couple of weeks:

We had a visit from 2 furry friends which created much excitement and enjoyment. We learned a lot about how to care for guinea pigs by listening to an excellent talk from Astrid and Minnie’s owner. We were delighted to be able to feed some green leaves to our well behaved and very cute little guests.

We wrote instructions for looking after pet guinea pigs after listening to relevant information.

Our individual iPads have been set up for use in class. We had a discussion about our rules for safe usage in class. We learned our login details and took a photograph to set as our wallpaper. We uploaded the Sumdog app and logged in to complete a challenge.  Thank you to everyone who has returned their signed contract for iPad use in school.

Our new science topic is MATERIALS. We have identified different materials such as metal, glass, stone, wood, plastic etc.

We went on a materials hunt to find as many examples of these in our school environment.  This outdoor learning experience caught the children’s interest and motivated them to keep looking for materials all around us.

We have been conducting investigations into the properties of a variety materials and learning appropriate vocabulary eg. rigid/flexible, waterproof. Testing and sorting everyday items then recording our findings is stimulating great conversation.

In numeracy, our focus has been multiplication and division; sharing amounts and making equal groups, times tables and number facts.

Telling the time is our current maths focus area. Children are working at their own pace to grasp quarter past and quarter to, minutes past and to the hour and using 5 minute intervals on both analogue and digital clocks.

Please support your child’s learning by completing the activities on our home learning plan shared on our class page each week. Thank you.

In writing, we are working on a new unit of “The Write Stuff” programme we use in St John’s. This term’s focus text is “The Day the Crayons Quit” but in P.3, it is our felt tip pens who have written a letter to us expressing their feelings! To be honest, we were all quite taken aback by how strongly they felt about our careless treatment of them. Now, we are working hard to persuade them to come back to our classrooms through our use of emotive adverbs and adjectives! We are also learning to use conjunctions such as ‘because’ in our writing.

We use experience days to enhance our writing lessons.

Music 🎶

The children of Primary 3 have many talents and singing beautifully is most definitely one of them. Their infectious energy brings songs to life. They are loving adding musical accompaniment to their voices. Enjoy a little sample here:

In RE, we have been learning about Lent and Ramadan.

P.3 will be leading our school in the  ‘Stations of the Cross’ during Holy Week. We are working in mixed class groups to prepare a reading/prayer, a freeze frame image (drama) and a piece of art work for each of the 14 stations.

We were so proud of the children who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation at a beautiful service on Monday evening at St John’s Church. Thanks to everyone involved in preparing the children for this special time in their faith journey. In class, everyone has been learning about the importance of forgiveness and healing while being true to the goodness within us all.

Thank you for your ongoing support. It continues to be such a pleasure to work with this amazing year group.

The P.3 Team.
