Another exciting week in primary 2 – we loved taking part in pyjama day for children in need on Friday, and were excited to receive our Read, Write, Count bags on Monday. We have been exploring the stories in these bags this week and will continue to work with them next week ahead of sending them home on St Andrew’s day.
This week we made puppets and some children chose to act out a story during their free play time.
We also went on a bug hunt! We searched with our new magnifying glass rulers and tried measuring the minibeasts we found. We also talked about how important minibeasts are for the ecosystem, and why it is important not to pick up and move any animals we find. We wrote about our bug hunt in literacy this week and p2 did some amazing work.
In maths we have been revising odds and evens, as well as discussing what we mean when we talk about numbers between. Next week we will work on finding a number halfway between two other numbers.
Our sounds this week are all the consonant blends we have been working on as we have come to the end of this topic. We will have one more week to revise all the sounds we have learned so far, and then move onto block 4.
The sounds we are revising are: ng, nk, cr, br, pr, fr, tr, gr, dr, pl, fl, cl, sl, bl, st, sn, sc, sm, sp, sw, sk, and tw.
Sentences to practice reading or writing:
Beth slid into the pool.
Bert bit the plum.
Scott swam in the water.
Spot ran for the twig.
The boy did a trick with coins.
We are still really enjoying junk modelling during our free play time, especially using big boxes to build – if you have any clean recycling or delivery boxes you think would be suitable, feel free to send them in!
