This week in literacy P.1 have been learning about the sounds of ‘m’ and ‘a’. They have been looking at what begins with ‘m’ and ‘a’ and have been practising writing and forming them correctly in the cursive style. At home they can look for objects that begin with these sounds and play I-spy. They can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens.
In numeracy the children have been counting backwards from 10. They have been starting from different places and stopping at different places. At home they can count from 10-5, 9-4, 8-3, 7-2 and so on. P.1 practised writing the numerals ‘0’ and ‘1’ on the whiteboards and they can practise these at home. They were continuing patterns with cubes, elephants and bears and creating patterns of their own for maths work. P.1 used number lines to find different numbers and count backwards starting and stopping at different places within 10. They used counters to lay out different amounts and made different patterns. They also enjoyed playing their counting and matching game again.
This week P.1 were taking part in RE where they discussed what talents and gifts they have and how they are a gift from God. The children drew pictures of themselves showing something that they are good at and then shared this with their peers.
