This week in literacy P.1 have been revising the sounds of ‘ee’ and ‘ay’. At home they can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens. At home the children can use their sounds to make words and write them too. They can practise writing simple sentences with some of their words. P.1 also practised reading all the tricky words. They used the magnetic boards to make words with the digraphs of ‘ee’, and ‘ay’. They wrote a dictation sentence in their jotters. At home they can practise reading and writing tricky words and using them in a sentence.
In numeracy the children copied and counted rhythmic clapping patterns. They worked on the mental maths strategy of near doubles. They used their knowledge of double sums to add 1 more or make the answer 1 less to find the answer. Eg. 2+2=4, so 2+3 is 1 more and 2+1 is 1 less than the double sum. At home they can practice double sums and apply their knowledge to near double sums.
In RE P.1 were learning about Mary the mother of Jesus. They learned that May is the special month for Mary. They looked at rosary beads and said the special prayer for Mary, the Hail Mary. They wrote about Mary in their jotter and drew a picture. Some of the children painted a picture of Mary to put up on the wall.
