A play in the park was a great way to spend some of our last full day in Primary 3. Everyone chose where they wanted to play and it was such a happy morning.
Back at school, a special treat awaited as a thank you to all the boys and girls for being so amazing this year…bubbles and ice-poles in the playground.
P.3, you are a truly wonderful year group and we have loved every single minute with you all.

What a morning we had in school on Friday! Everyone looked beautifully bright in all their varied colours, representing Scotland and many other nations. Ready to start the celebrations!
We headed straight out to the sunshine bathed astro to take part in a football session…well it is the World Cup!
On to dancing next to keep the fitness and fun going!
P7s worked hard to decorate us with face-paints and “tattoos”.
Back to class next to work on World Cup flag drawing and weaving along with designing a new football kit for a chosen country.
The children were more than excited to discover what the “surprise” part of the morning would be…the wait was over as we headed back to the hall for USA style hot-dogs then out to the playground to join the queue for the ice-cream van! What a treat!
Feeling fully fuelled after our food, we were energised for the whole school flag parade and singing event. Each class performed their song brilliantly and there were some impressive dance routines on show too!
It was such a feel-good atmosphere around our school all morning and a true festival of fun from start to finish. We are so lucky to be part of this special St John’s community. A huge thank you to the parent council for providing all the goodies!

What a perfect place to learn more about our green planet! We explored the plants and trees within the Botanics and had a wonderful day out in the natural world.

We ended the term with a very special experience as P.3 led the school community in the Stations of the Cross just before Easter. The children showed their artistic depiction of Jesus’ journey to the cross, read a reflection and shared a drama freeze-frame. Everyone who walked around Treverlen Park to observe the Stations appeared as impressed as we were by the children’s maturity and prayerfulness. Well done P.3.
It has been a productive start to the Summer term.
Our new topic is called ‘Our Green Planet’ with a current focus on trees. We enjoyed a visit to Figgate Park to study the different types of trees in our locality. We made observational drawings of our favourite trees to paint with watercolours upon our return to school.
It was a beautiful day for outdoor learning.
In numeracy and maths, we are working on fractions and money. Please refer to our weekly home learning page for activities to support the children.
In writing lessons, we are studying the features of a play script. We are using the novel ‘Flat Stanley’ as a stimulus.
In RE, we are using the programme ‘God’s Loving Plan’. Please refer to the information provided in the school newsletter on Friday 1st May for an overview of learning.
We are looking forward to all that this busy term brings with many events to enjoy together.
