Non-Newtonian fluids
This week, Primary 6 delved into the fascinating world of non-Newtonian fluids! We got our hands messy making oobleck (a mix of cornflour and water) to truly explore how its properties change when we apply force.
By mixing cornflour and water, we observed firsthand how applying force transformed this seemingly simple substance, making it behave like a solid when punched or squeezed, yet flow like a liquid when left alone. It was amazing to see it act like both a liquid and a solid, and the children found it incredibly engaging to explore its unique properties!
We also discovered why non-Newtonian fluids are so important and widely used in areas like medicine, healthcare, everyday products, and scientific research!
The great liquid race!
Primary 6 have been thoroughly enjoying their new topic, ‘States of Matter’! We’ve had some fascinating lessons exploring the properties of solids. Today we learned about the properties of liquids, with a particular focus on viscosity.
To bring this concept to life, the class had the opportunity to work collaboratively as a team to identify high and low viscosity liquids, make a hypothesis, and record the results of their findings during a fun liquid race involving washing up liquid, olive oil and syrup!

Primary 6 have been diving into their new topic on the Berlin Wall.
Today, the children enjoyed a full-day, immersive role-play activity. Each child arrived with either an “East” or “West” Berliner ID card, instantly placing them within the historical context. We then divided the classroom, creating a “wall” to simulate the physical and social division of Berlin.
Throughout the day, students experienced the realities of life during that time. They encountered “guards” at Checkpoint Charlie, who meticulously checked their identification before allowing them to cross between the East and West sides.

Primary 6 have been learning about Saint Valentine this week. The children researched the life of Valentine of Terni and made PowerPoints to present.
We also enjoyed experimenting blending colours using watercolour paint and chalk and exploring ways to use masking tape to block the paint from our artwork.
