Learning in P.1

This week in literacy P.1 have been learning about the sounds of ‘r’ and ‘j’. They have been looking at what begins with ‘r’ and ‘j’ and have been practising writing and forming them correctly in the cursive style and writing some words. At home they can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens and some cvc words too. They used boards with magnetic letters to find the different sounds and made words such as ‘rat’, ‘rug’, ‘rip’,‘red’, ‘rob’ ‘jar’, ‘jet’, ‘job’, ‘jug’ and ‘jig’.  At home the children can use their sounds to make these words and more.

In numeracy the children have been working on number recognition. They practised writing the number sequence 1-20 and played a number matching game. They used their number workbooks to look at numbers and draw correct amounts. They can practise counting different amounts at home and can practise writing their numerals 0-20.

In RE P.1 talked about how Sunday is the most important day of the week for Christians. They learned that, on Sundays, Catholics go to Mass to thank God for His love for us. They talked about who the parish priest is for St John’s and drew pictures of Father Jock saying Mass at the altar.

P7A Money museum

Great trip with this crazy bunch. We learnt many interesting facts about money and how it has changed over the years. We managed to even make our own coins.
