This week we reached the final stage of our architect STEM challenge which involved planning, designing and building our own paper cities. These photos are now in our learning jotters and most cities will have headed home but we will share photos here for you to enjoy. We were very proud of our finished cities!
We started our Wednesday STEM challenge afternoons with a very challenging challenge: to assemble a catapult using lolly sticks and rubber bands. Our patience was tested but many of us persevered!
We created these self-portraits which include words we might use to describe ourselves (our interests, our character traits etc) as part of the detail. You’ll be able to admire them at Meet the Teacher.
Our next STEM challenge was slightly less overwhelming and a lot of fun! We were tasked with making the longest paper chain we could with an A4 sheet of paper. Some built longer ones by teaming up with other makers.
P6A demonstrated excellent planning, organising and teamwork skills during this STEAM 3D building challenge. Can you guess which world monuments they constructed?
By Day 2 of 3D monument building challenge, our groups all managed to successfully complete their monuments and felt very proud of themselves!
The children demonstrated resilience and patience throughout; some even managed to rebuild monuments which weren’t successful on their first attempt. We witnessed some engineers in the making!
We had a brilliant time on our visit to Holyrood RC High School on Tuesday. We got to visit the DET classrooms and use saws and sandpaper to make our own keychains and then we visited a Biology classroom where we investigated using microscopes. We even got to learn about how to safely use a Bunsen Burner!
As part of our Science Forces topic we have been exploring air resistance. Today we enjoyed fine tuning the parachutes we designed and built in groups. We then took them to the top of the library stairs to test how well they travelled (and landed). Many of us were proud of our designs and pleasantly surprised with how well they worked!
