We hope you are all keeping well.
We are emailing ahead of the long weekend, and the beginning of home learning for P2 next week. We want to explain how home learning will work for term 1.
Home learning folders must be sent in everyday, regardless of reading day.
If reading books are not returned and are deemed lost or very damaged, parents and guardians will be asked to pay for replacements. It becomes very hard for us to arrange reading groups and books if we do not have enough of each book to give each child.
Please read with your child every night. This is the home learning that makes the most impact.
Home learning is not marked by teachers, but the folder should still come in everyday.
Literacy
- Reading – If you have time for home learning, reading should be the priority. Your child will be sent home with a reading book each week – everyone will get their first book on Tuesday the 15th of September. After this week, we will run reading groups staggered throughout the school week, so if your child gets their first book on a Tuesday, they will swap their book the next Tuesday. Please initial the reading record to let us know you have done reading with your child at home. You can use the ‘green words’ page in the Read Write Inc. books to practise spelling and writing.
- Red Words – You child has a ‘Red Word’ sheet in their home learning folder. These are words that cannot be sounded out like green words, and must be learned off by heart. Practise reading and spelling these words, starting with set 1.
Numeracy and Maths
- There is a numeracy grid stuck in your child’s home learning jotter and attached below this blog post. This grid includes a range of different beneficial numeracy activities you can do with your child at home. You can make these activities more or less challenging by changing the range of numbers used and the support given.
Topic
- Our current topic in P2 is space. We have glued in a ‘Moon Diary’ worksheet in their home learning jotter. Please fill this out each night, recording the moon shape seen and the date.
