Learning in P2!

Hello everyone,

PE have been busy getting stuck in with all different types of learning. From rocket experiments to coding, P2 have been engaging with work across the curriculum. Here is an update on what we have been learning:

Literacy

Phonics: We are continuing to progress through our sets of sounds. We are now looking at ‘special friends’ sounds (diagraphs); these are sounds that have 2 letters in them (for example: ch, th, sh, qu, ng and nk). We have been practising reading and writing words with these sounds.

Writing: we are continuing to develop our sentence writing using colourful semantics. We use coloured cards to build a sentence in the correct order. Here is an example of what this looks like:

We are also learning to check our work for capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, and cursive writing.

Numeracy

We are continuing to look at place value to 100 and beyond to challenge. Right now, we are focusing on filling in number tracks, forwards and backwards, to 100.

We are also working on ordering numbers from biggest to smallest, and from smallest to biggest, using our knowledge of hundreds, tens and ones to help us.

Maths

We have been exploring 2D and 3D shape, looking at shape names, and exploring their features. We are now moving on to pattern, and looking at repeating units:

Topic Space

We are continuing to explore space. We have been looking at galaxies and their different structures, and we are beginning to learn about rockets and space stations. P2 have been enjoying playing the role of astronaut, and co-ordinating space exploration in mission control!

P2 have been up to so much in school. Here are some pictures of what we have been doing!

P2 Home Learning 1.9.25

Hello,

Here is the first P2 home learning wall of the year!

Reading folders will be sent home and staggered this week, and your child will get their reading folder home depending on the day they read with teacher.

The type of reading home learning they do will depend on the book they get home. If you have any questions as to how to support your child with reading at home, please let us know.

More information will be shared at Meet the Teacher on Wednesday.

Thank you,

The P2 Team.

P2 Summer Outing to the Botanic Gardens 11.6.25

What a wonderful day of outdoor exploration in the beautiful Botanic Gardens made even better by the glorious sunshine. P2 had a brilliant time using their senses to touch and feel different natural objects and to investigate the sights, sounds and smells of this special place. Making our scented potions was a highlight! It was so much fun, we want to go for another visit! A big thanks to all our parent helpers who supported us on our trip today. Your help was much appreciated.

P2/1 and P2 Update 6.6.25

P2/1 and P2  learned about owls 🦉 this week as part of our ‘Living Things’ topic. We read information about barn owls and tawny owls then selected one to write a fact-file on. We used watercolours to paint owls and a drawing program on the iPads to create digital images. We enjoyed reading ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ and talking about the story.

Our P1 children had a fun and fascinating visit to Dynamic Earth on Wednesday. Everyone did really well and enjoyed exploring this brilliant place.
