An exciting week for p2 this week – I am sure you have heard all about our castles, more about that further down!
In phonics this week we have been working on the ‘soft c’ sound for the first time. This week we looked at words with ‘ace’ at the end. The children loved doing their active learning, trying to read and write ‘ace’ words in lots of different contexts including board games, word-searches, word sorting activities, magnetic boards, whiteboards and spinners and much more. Next week we will be moving on to look at words with ‘ice’ and ‘nce.’
In numeracy we have started to look at subtraction. Most children have been working on subtracting one digit numbers from each other and have made a brilliant start! If you want to practice at home, reading and understanding written subtraction questions has been a sticky spot for some children so this is a good place to start. eg. reading and answering

Next week we will continue to practice subtracting one digit numbers from each other, and start looking at questions with missing numbers. eg.
__ – 5 = 3
In maths we have started our topic on time with the days of the week. We have been putting these n order, practising reading and writing them, and discussing ‘tomorrow’ and ‘yesterday’.
Our main focus this week in the afternoons has been building and painting our castles! Thank you so much to everyone who sent in recycling to help us build these. The children did an amazing job and had a great time. We especially enjoyed painting our castles and listening to some medieval music while we painted.
We also discussed Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent in class. The children had lots of questions, and we will continue to answer these in our RE lessons in the lead up to Easter.
We loved sharing our favourite stories on Thursday for World Book Day – thanks to everyone who sent in their child’s favourite book.
