Primary 2 Learning 14th – 18th February

This week primary 2 have been hard at work revising their soft c words using ace, ice and nce. We also learned three new tricky words; write, great and move. We enjoyed practising using these words in sentences and playing our phonics games to practice reading and writing.

In writing we continued to look at where sentences end, and where we should be using full stops. We will continue to practice this in the coming weeks, but will move on to focus on using ‘and’ or ‘but,’ to join sentences as our new writing skill.

Our number work this week continued to focus on subtraction, and using subtraction facts under 10 to help us subtract under 20, for example 9 – 3 = 6 so 19 – 3 = 16. Next week we will continue to look at subtraction, moving on to look at how our number bonds under 10 can help us subtract from 20, for example 10 – 7 = 3 so 20 – 7 = 13.

In maths we have started to look at telling time using an analogue clock. This week we looked at o’clock times and had fun drawing them in the playground.

For our castles topic this week, the children had a challenge! They were each given lolly sticks and elastic bands and asked to build themselves a catapult – they came up with so many creative designs and had lots of fun firing them over their castle walls.

Finally, in RME, we have been discussing the SCIAF ‘wee box’, what the bible teaches about giving to the needy, and why charity is important. The children had lots of great ideas and have already been very generous – thank you to anyone who has sent in coins for our wee box! Find out more about the project here.

PE Day update: Thank you for bearing with us while we have been sorting out scheduling with the PE hall – from now on, P2a will continue to have PE on Fridays, while P2b have PE on Wednesdays.
