What a busy week in P2!
We have been hard at work planting, map making, treasure hunting and writing our ‘Dear New Teacher’ letters.
In Literacy this week we started reading our new class book, Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman. We discussed what we thought would happen in the story based on looking at the covers and reading the blurb. We are excited to continue this work next week with paired reading and find out if our predictions were correct!
We also wrote ‘Dear New Teacher’ letters, telling the p3 teachers all about the children’s interests and what they are looking forward to next year.
In maths we have been learning about coordinates and this week the children put their knowledge to the test, drawing their own axes and tea staining paper to create treasure maps and ask their friends questions using grid references. The children also hid and hunted their own ‘treasure’ (beanbags!) using a map of the play zone and grid references to give a partner clues to find where the beanbag was hiding.
In RME this week the children have had a great time hearing the story of Jonah and have really enjoyed discussing this and acting out parts as a class. See if your child can tell you the story!
And finally we have explored how healthy foods grow this week by planting and caring for cress seeds in class, as well as learning about how plants grow and what their parts are called. The children painted flowers and labelled them to demonstrate their knowledge.
Notice: We will start collecting in reading books next week and will not be sending out more as reading in class will focus on our class story ‘Amazing Grace’. If you have reading books at home please send these back in so we can get them put away and organised ready for the new year. Thank you!
