Celebrations in P.1

This week in literacy P.1 have been learning the sounds of ‘th’, and ‘z’. They have been using the sounds to make cvc words such as ‘thin’, ‘that’, ‘this’, ‘thick’, ‘zip’, zig’, ‘zag’.  They have also been introduced to the tricky or red words ‘his’ and ‘was’. They have been learning to write all the new sounds and have been practicing writing the new tricky words too.

In numeracy the children have continued with addition of 2 numbers and have been counting on 1 more and 1 less. They have been looking at different spot patterns for quick counting. They have been learning to put one number in their head and count on to add the second amount. They have been working hard at writing numbers correctly and making sure they are the right way round.

This week as part of the whole school ‘Celebrations’ topic P.1 have been learning about Lunar New Year. They listened to the zodiac story and learned about all the animals and made some rabbit faces to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. This week was also Robert Burn’s Day. The children sang some Scottish songs and listened to Auld Lang Syne. They talked about the food that is eaten for Robert Burn’s Day. They enjoyed skipping and dancing to Scottish music.

In RE P.1 have been listening to the Creation story from the Bible. They drew 6 pictures to show the order of the story and recall what happened.
