This week in literacy P.1 have been practising their fine motor skills and focusing on their pencil control. They can practise drawing shapes and writing their names at home with pencils and felt pens.
In numeracy the children have been counting forwards to 10. They have been starting from different places and stopping at different places. At home they can count from 2-5, 6-10, 4-8, 5-9 and so on. They were continuing patterns with cubes, elephants and bears and creating patterns of their own for maths work. P.1 used number fans to show different numbers and then show the number that comes after. They learned how to play a matching and counting game and took turns well in their groups.
P.1 have been continuing work on their Bear Hunt topic. They have been building dens with sticks, leaves and grass for bears and they have been printing with wellie boots, leaves and pinecones to make a layered frieze of the grass, mud, woods, river and snowstorm in the story. They have been making snowflakes by cutting folded circle shapes to glue into their Bear Hunt workbook. They can practise their cutting skills at home by making snowflakes and cutting out pictures and shapes.
