This week in literacy P.1 have been learning about the sounds of ‘c’ and ‘k’. They have been looking at what begins with ‘c’ and ‘k’ and have been practising writing and forming them correctly in the cursive style on whiteboards. They have also looked at words that end with ‘ck’ and wrote some of these on whiteboards. At home they can look for objects that begin and end with these sounds. They can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens. They used boards with magnetic letters to find the different sounds and made words such as ‘cat’,‘cog’, ‘cap’, ‘kit’, ‘kid’ ‘kin’, ‘dock’, ‘pack’, ‘sick’ and ‘sock’. At home the children can use their sounds to make these words and more.
In numeracy the children have been counting forwards and backwards from 20. They have also been saying what number comes ‘before’ and ‘after’ when looking at different numbers from 0-10. They counted and matched in a number game to 10. They also used the number fans to show different numbers and then the number that would come ‘before’ and ‘after’. At home they can count objects around the house and say what number would come ‘before’ and ‘after’. P.1 practised writing their numerals 0-10 on whiteboards and they can practise writing these at home.
In RE P.1 learned that our bodies are a gift from God and that we can use our 5 senses to worship God.
The children used a 5 senses sheet to draw and show how they use their senses.
P.1 have settled back well after the October break and worked hard this week.
