Literacy
In literacy this week we are continuing our sentence stacking lessons building up to writing a news article about social media use amongst under 13s. So far we have explored facts and figures about young people online, and this week we will be using that knowledge to write effective sentences, using other techniques such as alliteration to engage our readers. Now would be a good time to have a chat at home about social media. What are the advantages and disadvantages? How can you tell you can trust something you read online?
Numeracy
We are learning all about fractions this week, and are exploring improper fractions and how to convert between them and mixed numbers. There is a Sumdog challenge set if your child would like to practice at home!
RE
In RE we have been learning about St Patrick and the work he did in Ireland to cause him to become their patron saint. We have also been exploring the Easter story; last week we re-enacted scenes from Palm Sunday and answered questions about the events on that day. We have also been supporting our Muslim peers to celebrate Ramadan, and have been learning about the significance of this special period.
Other Learning
We are rounding up our Scottish Wars of Independence topic with creating our own seals in the style of those on the Declaration of Arbroath. We have also been presenting our research from last week in front of the class, and will be summarising all our learning by making movies of the key events. At home you could try to make a mind map at home of all the key people and events from this interesting time in Scottish history.
P5B have a trip planned to visit Holyrood Park on Wednesday for an archaeological day out, having a guided walk with one of their park rangers and doing Iron Age crafts.
