Hello P2!

Hello everyone,

We hope everyone has enjoyed getting back into the routine of school these past few weeks. In P2, we have been learning about our new routines, getting to know our new adults, and have been engaging in fun and interesting new learning.

Here is a run down of what we have been doing:

Literacy

In literacy, we have been looking back at the sounds we learned in P1. Using this knowledge, we have been practising our sound blending, spelling words, and have begin to practise writing sentences.

We are also being given our first reading books of the year, and we are excited to bring these home and to practise with an adult.

Numeracy

In numeracy, we have begun to look at place value, which is all about the structure of numbers. We have been practising our counting forwards and backwards within 50 (and beyond to challenge), finding missing numbers ordering and sequencing numbers, and identifying and findings numbers on a 100 square

We are currently looking at numbers using 10s and 1s. This involves figuring out how many 10s and 1s are in a numbers, making a specific number using 10s and 1s, and determining what a number is by counting how many 10s and 1s it has.

Here is a video that explains place value for you:

Space Topic

In P2, we voted to learn about Space. This week, we have been learning about the solar system and its structure. This has involved planet songs, and a fun cut and stick activity to help us understand our solar system!

Religous Education

In RE, we have been exploring themes such as forgiveness and love by looking at different bible stories, and relating them to our own life and actions.

Health and Wellbeing

In PE, we are playing different games to help us develop our listening and teamwork skills; these skills will help us engage successfully in PE throughout the year. We are also learning about different fitness skills: we have started to explore the skills of co-ordination and stamina, and how these skills impact our fitness and exercise.

We have also been using the Zones of Regulation as a way for us to communicate our feelings. Here is a short video exploring how we can use the zones to communicate how we feel:

Thank you!

We will see you at Meet the Teacher.

For those that can’t make Meet the Teacher, we will post the PowerPoint we use on the P2 blog.

Thank you,

The P2 Team.
