This week in literacy P.1 have learned the sounds of ‘igh’ and ‘ow’. They made words such as ‘high’, ‘sigh’, ‘light’, ‘sight’,‘night’, ‘might’ ‘low’, ‘mow’, ‘sow’, ‘blow’, ‘show’, ‘grow’ and ‘snow’ with magnetic boards. In their jotter, they wrote some of these words and a short sentence. At home they can practise writing the sounds with pencils and felt pens. At home the children can use their sounds to make ‘igh’ and ‘ow’ words and write them too. The children practised reading the tricky words ‘saw’ and ‘no’. At home they can practise reading and writing these tricky words.
In numeracy the children were looking at different spot patterns and dice pattern cards for quick visual counting. They made spot patterns of their own with paint, playdough, hoops and pencils. At home they can practise counting dice and domino spot patterns. They have been learning to identify and order coins and have been using the till and coins in the class Fairtrade shop. They can practise putting coins into order from least amount to the most.
This week in RE P.1 were listening to the Bible story of ‘Jesus in the Desert’. They learned that he was in the desert for 40 days to prepare for starting his teachings. They learned that he prayed and fasted as part of his preparation and that Catholics do the same during Lent for 40 days to prepare for Easter.
This week many of the children dressed up as a book character for World Book Day. They have listened to a different story each day in preparation for World Book Day. Some of the children shared the books they brought in to match their character.
