On Monday, the children enjoyed being ‘Trainee Astronauts’. We learnt about the skills an astronaut needs and identified which talents they could bring to the role. The children completed their training card by receiving stamps for taking part in STEM and fitness activities throughout ‘Astronaut Training Day’. They were delighted to earn their astronaut badge at the end of the day. Well Done Primary 2/1 & Primary 2!
On Wednesday, we had a very exciting visit from Cosmos Planetarium. We adventured through space exploring the different planets and gazed upon the stars.

On Thursday, we continued writing our creative sentences about ‘how to catch a star’🌟 ✍️🏻. The children’s descriptive language has truly been out of this world! 🌎 It is a joy to observe the children’s progress and motivation to write. 🌟
SPACE Art and Craft
Our current artistic project started today. We learned about spacecraft and vehicles then set to work designing and making 3D models of shuttles, satellites, the international space station, capsules, modules, Mars probes, rockets and more. We were so proud of the children for the independent working they displayed as they planned and constructed, sharing materials and supporting each other all the way. As Julian said, “Team work makes the dream work!” Thanks to all who provided an exciting supply of resources for this activity. We are keeping our end products a surprise for now but we can show you our busy space workshops…definitely some future engineers amongst us!

On Wednesday 23rd April, we invite parents/carers to join the children in school to share some of our Space learning.
P.2 parents/carers at 9.30am
P2/1 parents/carers at 2pm
Please arrive at the main reception at the times above.
We kindly request that a maximum of 2 adults per child attend for health and safety reasons.
Many thanks for your ongoing support.

Back to the 1980s
We enjoyed learning about the past through our trip back in time to the eighties. The children were fascinated by the changes in technology and how different school was between then and now. One of our P1 learners was able to work out how long ago 1980 was…amazing numeracy work!

Talent Show
Well done to all the children who participated in our class talent show. It was wonderful to watch everyone share their choice of performance from dancing, singing, judo, football skills, acrobatics, boxing, a quiz, drawing, gymnastics and more. Each class provided a supportive and positive audience for their peers. After voting, 2 acts from each class will go forward to our joint P1 and P2 final next Friday during school time.

Outdoor PE
We continue to make use of our brighter days to take PE outdoors to our astro. This week, we had throwing and catching games, target aiming, skipping, football, running and cheerleading. We do love our active time in the sunshine. 🌞

Maths
P2 have been learning to measure and compare the weight of different objects. This week we introduced the concept of estimating which object was heavier or lighter before weighing to check. Alot of fun was had finding out if we were correct or not!

Writing
Over the last few weeks, P2 have been focusing on imaginative writing using the story ‘How to Catch a Star’ as a stimulus. This is connected to our Space learning. This week, we had to use action words to write about how the boy in the story would travel to catch a star.

We are so proud of all our children and their continuing progress at St John’s.
It has been lovely to meet with parents this week and share children’s successes and next steps.
