New Skimming and Scanning Skills

Today in P6 we learned to use two new skills when we are reading: skimming and scanning.

We worked in pairs to scan and skim texts to find answers to questions.

We hope that these new skills will help us with our learning from now on!

Black History Month

The children in P6B are proud of the work we have been doing for Black History Month. This week the children each chose a Black person who has inspired them. Many chose athletes but others chose actors, politicians and authors. They then researched their lives and created a poster all about them.

Happy European Day of Languages!

In P6b we celebrated the European Day of Languages by exploring a huge number of different languages and enjoyed a guess the language /guess the meaning of the word game.

These are some of the welcome signs we made for our classroom door.

August and early September in P6B

We started our Wednesday STEM challenge afternoons with a very challenging challenge: to assemble a catapult using lolly sticks and rubber bands. Our patience was tested but many of us persevered!

We created these self-portraits which include words we might use to describe ourselves (our interests, our character traits etc) as part of the detail. You’ll be able to admire them at Meet the Teacher.

Our next STEM challenge was slightly less overwhelming and a lot of fun! We were tasked with making the longest paper chain we could with an A4 sheet of paper. Some built longer ones by teaming up with other makers.

We’ve been enjoying playing kickball rounders in PE while the weather cooperates.

STEAM Building Challenge in P6

P6A demonstrated excellent planning, organising and teamwork skills during this STEAM 3D building challenge. Can you guess which world monuments they constructed?

By Day 2 of 3D monument building challenge, our groups all managed to successfully complete their monuments and felt very proud of themselves!

The children demonstrated resilience and patience throughout; some even managed to rebuild monuments which weren’t successful on their first attempt. We witnessed some engineers in the making!
