P6 Learning Grid – 27.04.20

Hello hello! We hope you all had an enjoyable weekend and managed to spend some time in the beautiful sunshine!

The weekly routine is now going to be slightly different. After a parent survey, it has been decided that every year group will have a weekly grid of activities from the various areas of the curriculum to focus on. Here is the weekly grid for P6.

As before, the tasks should fit in around your family life. It is up to you when you complete the tasks and any tasks you do complete can be uploaded to your folder on Class Notebook or OneDrive, as you have already been doing. We will regularly check these folders to look at your work, so you don’t need to tell us when you have completed a piece of work.

We hope this all makes sense! If you have any questions, please ask on Teams

Have a good week!

P6 Learning Log – Lion King Week!

P6 have been very excited for The Lion King this week, so to prepare we have been doing lots of African-themed activities.

Firstly, went on Google Maps on our iPads and looked at different African landmarks and landscapes, such as the pyramids at Giza, Mount Kilimanjaro and Victoria Falls.

We then learnt about kente cloth, which is a cloth from Ghana made on looms. It is made of squares of colourful patterns which are woven together, and each colour has a different meaning. We used pieces of paper and each made a square, and then we are going to put them together to make it look like a piece of kente cloth.

We also researched the names of the characters in The Lion King, because they all have names which mean something in Swahili, and then made Book Creators about them. It was very interesting learning why they have the names they do.

In PE, we created danced in groups to songs from The Lion King. It was so fun expressing ourselves through dance.

Finally, we got to go to the Playhouse in town and got to see The Lion King! It was amazing! We loved all the dances and the characters; overall it was fabulous! Thank you for reading our blog, and don’t forget, Hakuna Matata!

P6 Learning – Week beginning 24.02.19

We have had a busy week!

In art, we have been transcribing the work of Steven Brown, and love how colourful and individual they have turned out. We chose what materials we used for them and what animal we drew.

In maths, we have been learning about 3D shapes. Firstly, we learnt the vocabulary to describe their properties; words such as edges, faces, vertices and apex. Next, we took our ipads and went outside to find shapes in the environment and talked about how they are used in nature and design. We picked our best photo and annotated it in our jotters.

This week was Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. We enjoyed going to church and getting ashes placed on our foreheads in the shape of a crosses. The ashes symbolise new life.

In writing, we are looking at news articles. Some people brought in examples of news articles and we picked out the key features. We are looking forward to writing our own next week!

We also listened to a piece of music called Zadok the Priest by a composer called Handel. As we listened, we used whatever materials we wanted to draw how it made us feel, or what it made us think of. It was interesting to see the variety of things we drew! We were shocked by how familiar it sounded, despite being nearly 300 years old, until some of us realised it is the inspiration for the Champions League song!

Finally, we started an exciting project this week. We got into groups and have been given the task of redeveloping a piece of land. In a few week’s time we will be pitching, apprentice-style, to Karren and Claude (Ms Mitchell and Miss Sinclair!), who will pick the group with the most interesting, but realistic, land use. This week we picked team names and logos, and brainstormed some land use ideas, thinking of how we could justify them.
