P7 Learn about World War 2

P7 have been learning about World War 2. We have a fantastic display about the evacuation and how the war affected children. We also drew soldiers using charcoal, and think we did a great job at capturing how the soldiers must have felt. We are looking forward to learning more about this important period of history!

Burns Day Celebrations

We were luck to have Mrs Gargaro’s daughter and her friend come in for our Burns celebration last week. They showed us some amazing highland dancing, and we thought it was so good that we had to share it here!

Sam’s Rubik’s Cube Success

Rubik’s cubes have been very popular among the P5s, and Sam has worked hard to perfect his technique. Watch him impressing Mrs Kelly by completing a Rubik’s cube in just one minute! Well done Sam!

P5 Learning Log – Week Beginning 28.01.19

This week we started our Light and Sound topic. There are manmade sources of light like candles, lamps, iPads, torches and fireworks, and there are natural ones like fire, lava, the sun and lightning. We also learnt about how light travels through objects. There are opaque things like tables, walls, floors, bricks, foil and metal. There are also transparent things like glass, windows, clear water bottles and glasses, and translucent things like sunglasses, tracing paper and cellophane.

We were also learning about Scottish myths. Some Scottish myths have dangerous creatures; some creatures live in water and some on land. Myths are stories about mysteries, some people look for the creatures and try to kill them and some people think that they are not true. We wrote our own Scottish myths, making up a mystery and explaining with the actions of a mythical creature.

We have been learning about awesome alliteration. Alliteration is when you make at least 2 words start with the same letter. It can be used for names like Horrid Henry. We used alliteration in our Scottish myths.

In RE we learnt about St Thomas Aquinas. He was a calm and quiet person who read a lot of books and wrote down lots of ideas. He came up with the ‘first cause’ argument.

In PE we have been staying active by leading each other in fitness activities, and we played a fitness activity in teams using a deck of cards.

Eco Meeting 28.01.19

  • Register: Absent/apologies: None
  • Eco Code: Ms Mitchell showed the group the eco codes that have been handed in so far. A few people still have one to hand in so we will decide on one to be our main eco code next time.
  • Earth Hour 2019: The group discussed our promises for Earth Hour 2019, based around plastic pollution, wildlife, climate change or food system. There is a competition to design a poster to go in bus shelters before Earth Hour which closes at the end of the week. The reps all got a copy of the criteria, and anyone wishing to enter must hand their entry in as soon as possible.
  • Eco Initiatives for the School: We looked at a letter we received from a company called ‘Eco-Ties’ who make school ties out of recycled plastic. We are not sure how much the ties will cost but have decided we will contact the company and get a quote. Hannah and Gabriella also talked about an initiative encouraging schools to recycle batteries, which the school is going to get involved in.
  • Badges: The group asked about having Eco Group badges. Gabriella suggested they make their own, and the group voted to do that rather than have Ms Mitchell make them. We will do this during the next meeting.
  • Ideas from the reps: Some reps shared some ideas for fundraising and raising awareness. We thought about organising green nose day and having a dance off, we will have a think about these ideas and discuss during the next meeting.
  • Environmental Review: Ms Mitchell handed the reps in each class a section of the environmental review to complete before the next meeting. They will need to look around the school and might need to speak to staff and pupils to find out information. This will help us to write our action plan for the next couple of years.
  • Photographs were taken of the reps to go on the Eco board, which will be created downstairs opposite the GP room to display our work and eco code.

Next meeting will be on 19th February 2019.
