Day two continued at Benmore House

This afternoon group 8 and Miss Sinclair went to the high ropes course. We were nervous and excited before we went and scared when we saw the height of the course.

Eliza compared the height to a 7.5m diving board! She enjoyed the thrill of going higher and jumping onto the trapeze.

Tommy enjoyed going upside down while hanging down from the high ropes course!

Brandon enjoyed climbing up the totem pole to a wobbly platform with Tommy and jumping towards the trapeze, which Brandon and Tommy caught.

Hannah enjoyed working together to belay for a partner. She supported Emily and made sure she stayed safe. She also enjoyed trying more than one course.

Grace loved the first course because it had cool ropes even though she was scared before she tried it. She liked jumping off with a harness, it felt like she was flying.

Jack felt it was challenging to let go and jump towards the trapeze. He felt great and proud of himself when he successfully caught the flying trapeze.

Oliver felt a little nervous before he got to the ropes course, he wasn’t sure he could it. However he did! He felt proud and amazed that he jumped off the totem pole to the trapeze!

We felt we achieved something special today and we can’t wait to try more activities!

Day two in the Benmore house

An exciting end to our day by doing a night walk. It was really scary but adventurous. Once we were in the dark for a while, our eyes started to adjust but then a car would come along and we would lose our night vision. Occasionally we got a little stressed when we had to keep up with the group in front. You could hardly see a thing! There were a lot of tree stumps which made it easy to fall over and when you were going down hill you had to cling on to the rope for dear life! We had to ask others in our group to guide the way. It meant there was a lot of teamwork and concentrating going on.

Part of our walk was crawling through dark, slimy tunnels. It was very muddy! Before going in we had a little boost of adrenaline that gave us the courage to do it. By the end we felt relieved and proud of what we had a achieved.

A great night’s sleep was had by all.

In the morning we had chores to remember and our group set up the breakfast tables. Our inspection was stressful as we struggled to find hoovers and brushes in the short time we had.

We are just back from kayaking and it was easier than it looked. We always had to think about the wind, which was really strong today. You couldn’t go too fast and you needed a lot of balance otherwise you would capsize, a few of us did! The water felt like -50 degrees and our legs were so numb. It was hard to swim because the life jacket pulled you up. We all agreed that we would gladly do this again.

It was great to come back to warm lentil soup and comfy slippers.

We have mountain biking this afternoon and cannot wait for our steak pie dinner later.

P7 Residential Trip – The Adventure begins

As we approached Benmore we thought it looked like a castle! We were excited as we arrived. The building looked adventurous like the pictures we had seen before. The ceilings in the rooms are really high, much higher than at home.

As soon as we met as a whole school we were split into our groups. Our instructor is called Phil. We went to the library to play a name memory game. Later we were given waterproofs and wellies. We were also given the challenge of making our beds, it was really hard to put the duvet covers on!

To help us get our bearings we went for a walk around the grounds. We ate clover which tasted just like apple skin! We had to walk through rivers and mud, everyone enjoyed getting muddy! We had to put our face into the mud and made Miss Sinclair crawl through a small tunnel.

When we arrived back we noticed everyone was outside, the fire alarm had gone off and we had to wait for the fire brigade to arrive before we could go and get changed. We rolled down the hill on the front lawn to pass the time.

Dinner was delicious and juicy. We ate fish and chips even though some of us don’t usually like it!

We are just getting ready for another challenge…the night walk! It’s going to very dark with obstacles and no torches! We think we might have to communicate well and work as a team. We are really excited!
